Shape Your Future

The idea for the Shape Your Future project emerged following the successful implementation of the Creative Force project Get Me On Board during 2019-2020. Get Me On Board aimed to reveal the challenges and strengths of Syrian women in their job search through a documentary film and to prepare a guide on how to find employment in Turkey.

During interviews with Syrian women, the following observations were made:

1. None of the Syrian women were aware of their right to work.
2. Child marriage before the age of 18 is common in Syria, causing many girls to marry young instead of continuing their education.
3. Having a university degree has a significant positive impact on social integration, employment opportunities, and future prospects, yet only a few Syrian girls pursue higher education.

IKF Malmö and IRRA recognized that the new generation is approaching adulthood and that implementing a project focusing on Syrian girls aged 15-17 is critical for their future.The purpose of Shape Your Future has been to increase young Syrian refugee girls’ awareness of their rights regarding education and marriage. Through mentorship sessions, online videos, and legal counseling, participants have learned about their rights and gained essential knowledge to shape their future in education and careers. The project has been vital in reducing child marriages and promoting gender equality in Turkey.
