In today’s digital world, social media is both a platform for expression and community – but unfortunately also for harm. Gender-based disinformation and hate speech spread rapidly, affecting young people’s safety and experience of equality online. The ScrollOff project, a groundbreaking European initiative funded by the EU’s Erasmus+, provides young people, youth leaders and teachers with the tools and knowledge to identify, counter and challenge hate and disinformation online.

Strengthening youth leaders for real impact

ScrollOff recognizes that youth leaders are important guides in young people's digital lives. The project offers:

  • Training and workshops that help leaders recognize harmful narratives and language online.
  • Interactive exercises that build confidence in supporting young people who encounter hate or harassment.

Through research and experiences from young people and experts in Europe, strategies are developed that combine theory and practice.

Reference KeyBook – an indispensable guide

ScrollOff's Reference KeyBook brings together research, case studies and practical tools for youth leaders and teachers. Here you will find:

  • Explanations of how gender-based misinformation and hate work online.
  • Guidelines for detecting and responding to harmful content.
  • Examples and exercises that can be used directly in teaching and youth work.

Free courses via the ScrollOff portal

The project offers a free online portal where young people and leaders can:

  • Sign up for courses about hate on social media.
  • Download resources and modules from experts.
  • Network with others committed to digital equality and respectful dialogue.

Why ScrollOff is important

Technology is evolving rapidly and young people are constantly exposed to content that shapes their values and social norms. Gender-based hate not only harms individuals, but also reduces trust and normalizes discrimination. ScrollOff provides concrete, evidence-based tools and increases access to education – thereby strengthening digital citizenship, equality and democratic participation.
